You will rarely see Coach Chris sitting still. Instead, he's running, jumping laughing, coaching, and demonstrating his instructions. He'll never look for praises or thank you's. His enjoyment comes from parents smiles and the numerous excited screams of "COACH CHRIS!" from his previous and current players.

Coach Phil Gawlik

Growing up I was always playing sports, be it baseball, soccer, football or basketball. Basketball was my true passion. With Michael Jordan winning championship after championship, who didn't love watching and playing basketball. Now with a family of my own, I'm able to participate in all the sports and activities my wonderful children are interested in. It makes me so proud seeing all three of my children give it their all thru sports and most importantly, in the classroom. I've had the privilege of coaching baseball, soccer, and basketball.  I'm still a little rusty on the dance floor, so ballet and hip hop I leave to the professionals. I truly enjoy mentoring players as they come together as a team with good sportsmanship, on and off the court and enjoying themselves while doing it. Now that's what it's all about. Let's continue to make good players, but more importantly great people!

Fundamentals

I am committed to teaching and mentoring the fundamentals of the game; regardless of which skill level our players belong to.  Young minds are impressionable and if we can reach them early, teach them good habits, this will not only help them in the game of basketball, but also in life.

I have a love of family and a passion for basketball. Since 2017, I’ve been coaching Youth Basketball in the Plainfield School District 202 community. I believe in the philosophy of reaching and teaching my love of basketball to young minds and having a “lead by example” mentality while working around today’s youths. I truly enjoy mentoring kids through sports, especially on the hardwood. Basketball shouldn’t be a selfish sport, but instead a team/pack mentality to compete together. I stress teamwork over winning, but of course I also like to win. Regardless of the outcome, we must do it with respect for the game and our family. I enjoy taking the time to understand my players weaknesses and strengths so we may continue to do the positives and enhance what needs a little work. With a beautiful family of my own, I know how important it is to make any sport fun. Through motivation and a fun attitude, I can’t wait to work with new and returning players.
